Health Concerns
Health-related distress might take on many forms: feeling the toll of managing an existing diagnosed condition, experiencing medically unexplained symptoms, or worrying about developing an illness in the future. Underlying all of these examples, is the intimate connection between our physical and mental health. Too often, this connection is underrecognized in siloed medical and mental health fields, thus missing an opportunity to offer more holistic paths to healing — be that from physical illness, emotional trauma, or both.
I have worked alongside medical practitioners throughout my training, and understand the toll of medical illness (and medical treatment) on our emotional and mental health. For those dealing with health concerns or health anxiety, I rely on behavioral and lifestyle modifications and mindfulness-based approaches that allow for a more complete recovery from health-related trauma, and an opportunity to live a more fulfilling life. I use Cognitive-Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness-based strategies to assist in symptom reduction.
I value client-centered approach to treatment, and am happy to get in touch with medical providers to coordinate care.
Medical conditions I work with most often include:
Chronic pain
Overweight and Obesity
Cancer
Tinnitus
Gastrointestinal disorders and distress
Autoimmune conditions
Other chronic illnesses
